Book two

Sometimes when I turned around and looked at Keshav, he’d look at me and smile or make eye contact. I would remain happy for the rest of the day in memory of those few moments I felt like I was in the eye of the one person who completely prepossessed me.

One time, Ms. Kiran was telling the class about how Hydrochloric Acid acts like bleach and whitens anything that falls into it. No sooner had he heard this than Kishan whispered into Moyukh’s ear, “we should drop Chinmay into this acid.” Unfortunately for him, Ms. Kiran heard him and asked him to leave the classroom following a brief incident during which she insulted him and lectured him about racism. I turned to steal a glance at Keshav and saw that he was significantly disgusted by the racist remark. I don’t know if it was because he disliked Kishan or if he was friends with Chinmay. I only know that he looked disappointed but when I caught his glance, he smiled a little. He smiled. Because of me.
